Il 3 ottobre 1990 i territori della Germania Est (DDR) vengono riunificati con la Germania Ovest (BRD)

Al tempo del Muro, era l'unico valico di frontiera per i treni a lunga percorrenza e la S-Bahn tra Berlino Ovest e Est.
