The news about the Corona virus and its effects is coming thick and fast. We are all requested to stay at home and avoid social contacts as long as we do not have to go to work. The effects of these measures are also on our minds and we must adjust our dealings day-to-day to new situations.
Overview of important information

Today, we would therefore like to give you an overview of how all of this is affecting our work and your hobby.

Let's start with the positive news: Time at home can also mean that you can devote yourself to the best of all hobbies. How would it be for example to begin finally with the long postponed construction of your own model railroad layout? Or, you get your model trains down from the attic and set them up again? This "extra time" can also be used by active Märklin fans for needed conversions on the layout: converting turnouts to digital or converting to newer track. For those of you with a yard and garden available, there is a great opportunity with our LGB garden railway trains to start a hobby outdoors in the fresh air as a family project.

We would really like to support you here. Even if the specialty stores have closed for public traffic (in quite some countries) , many of the specialty dealers have become very creative and are continuing to serve their customers with things such as help by telephone, delivery by mail or to your home or for pickup at the store for telephone and mail orders. If you need something, contact your specialty dealer to find out what he can offer.

And: You will also be helping these specialty dealers over a difficult time and thereby ensuring ultimately the survival of a variety of specialty dealers.

On the Märklin Web pages, you will find valuable tips, and a variety of how-to videos awaits you on our Märklin YouTube channel.

The current live help shows at www.maerklin.de/live are also an exciting pastime. As in the past, our online shop is still available to you with a variety of available locomotives, cars, and also track or signals. Make the best of the situation.

Beyond that, there are other points about which we would like to give you information:

Unfortunately, the current exceptional situation has not left our production unaffected:

Delivery of even the simplest outsourced electronic assemblies for our assortment has come to a halt, which has led to an inability to produce and deliver certain items immediately. For example, we can probably not deliver our Central Stations (60216 / 60226) again until the beginning of May. Here, we recommend asking your dealer about available product.
The wave of sickness and curfews has affected our plant in Hungary so that we have unfortunately been forced to halt production there for 4 weeks.
Production at our plant in Göppingen is also affected. As a result, we are implementing short time work here as well as in the management for the entire month of April.

What does this mean for you?

The production and delivery of several new items will take place later than originally planned – those items affected will be updated regularly on our Web pages directly in the product and delivery list.
The introduction of the summer new items originally planned for the beginning of May is being postponed until September of 2020. At this time, we will then publicize an appropriate new items package. Make use of the "acquired time" to talk to your specialty dealer about the new items already introduced.
We would normally present a second club model in June for Märklin and Trix H0. Due to the loss of production capacity, this will not be possible in 2020. The good news for you: With the current interruption, we can still accept orders until April 30, 2020 for the first club model, the class Ram 501 TEE diesel powered rail car train (Märklin 39706 / Trix 22976). This also applies to the club models in Z Gauge (item number 88275), Replica (item number 18036) and Minitrix (item number 16015).
The opening of the Märklineum last planned for June is postponed until the fall. Current information about this is available at www.maerklineum.de. Since the Store in the Märklineum is also affected by the current closure, we recommend here the Märklin Online Shop.

Ma il mercato recepirà un prototipo di nicchia?
Il modello ha certamente avuto un costo di progettazione e di realizzazione, riusciranno a venderne in quantità tale da ammortizzare i costi?
Anche perchè è stato un esemplare unico con alcune varianti di colore.
Spero per loro che abbiano fatto una ricerca di marketing seria e completa.
Mi avventuro in un campo minato, ma se avessero prodotto un modello famoso italiano, ne avrebbero venduti di più o di meno?
Certamente io non lo comprerò, e non solo perchè è brutto, anche se potrebbe diventare in futuro un must collezionistico, dipende da quanti ne venderanno.

In genere sono molto interessato dai treni automotori e questo non fa eccezione.
Certo che il doppio giunto cardanico e la cascata di ingranaggi sono una bella sfida e sara' interessante vedere il loro comportamento.
Comunque non sono iscritto al club e quindi per me sara' difficile averlo.

Sì, il modello è completamente nuovo.
Proprio per questo motivo suppongo che i costi di progettazione e di realizzazione non siano stati indifferenti, e le mie perplessità sulle potenzialità del mercato rimangono.
Tuttavia potrebbe essere che la sperimentazione la facciano su un modello che può fare flop, in attesa di trasferire la tecnologia più collaudata su altri modelli più importanti.
